Andrus will earn $2.375mm in 2012 with a $750k signing bonus, $4.8mm in 2013 and $6.475mm in 2014.

In three seasons, all with the Rangers, Andrus has played in at least 145 games and owns a career .271 avg and posted career highs in hit (164) and stolen bases (37) last season.

Rosenthal says that the team’s financial flexibility isn’t as “significant” as everybody expected, and that’s why they are exploring “more cost-effective moves” like trading for pitchers such as Matt Garza, Gio Gonzalez and Wade Davis.

With Fielder on his way to commanding at least a $150 million contract, and Darvish about $100 million including the posting fee and his contract, the Rangers have cheaper options by trading for any of the above named pitchers.

Garza was 10-10 with a 3.32 ERA in 198 innings with the Cubs in 2011.

Gonzalez went 16-12 with a 3.12 ERA in 202.0 innings with the A’s in 2011 and Davis went 11-10 with a 4.45 ERA in 184 innings with the Rays in 2011.

The Rangers won 96 regular season games, or 47 above the 49 games win line. They paid $92,299,264 in total salaries meaning they paid $1,721,324.77 for every win they got above 49.

Their top five paid players were:

– Michael Young ($16,174,975): Young hit .338/.380/.474 with 11 HR’s, 106 RBI’s, 88 runs and a .854 OPS. Young earned $1,470,452.23 for every home run he hit, or $152,594.10 for every RBI he got, or $61,736.55 for every time he got on base. Young who played in almost every game earned $101,729 for each game he played in (159).

– Adrian Beltre ($14,000,000): Beltre hit .296/.331/.561 with 32 HR’s, 105 RBI’s, 82 runs and a .892 OPS. He earned $437,500 for every homer he hit, or $133,333.33 for every RBI he collected, or $80,459.77 for every time he got on base. Beltre who fought the injury bug this season, earned $112,903 for every game he played in.

– Josh Hamilton ($8,750,000): Hamilton hit .298/.346/.536 with 25 HR’s, 94 RBI’s, 80 runs and an OPS of .882. Hamilton earned $350,000 for every home run he got, or $93,085.11 for every RBI, or $47,043.01 for every time he got on base. Hamilton earned $72,314 for every game he played in (121 games played).

– C.J. Wilson ($7,000,000): WIlson went 16-7 with a 2.94 ERA and 206 strikeouts in 223.1 innings. Wilson got $437,500 for every won game, or $33,980.58 for every strike out. Wilson took the mound 34 times last season which means he earned $205,882 for every start.

– Ian Kinsler ($6,200,000): Kinsler hit .255/.355/.477 with 32 HR’s, 77 RBI’s, 121 runs and a .832 OPS. He earned $193,750 for every home run he hit, or $80,519 for every RBI, $51,239.70 for every run scored, or $24,313.73 for every time he got on base.

The Rangers had a .340 OBP as a team and a .460 of SLG percentage. They scored a total runs of 855 which breaks down their expenses to $107,952.35 per run.

The Ranger that was on base the most was Young, although the one who scored the most runs was Kinsler. Young had .025 points more than Kinsler in the OBP column, but Kinsler scored 33 runs more than Young. Given their salaries, Kinsler being $9,974,975 cheaper than Young, we can conclude that Kinsler was more of a efficient investment for the team. After all, the Rangers paid almost three times more to Young than what they paid to Kinsler every time he got on base.

Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports add that the Yankees, Blue Jays and Texas Rangers are expected to bid on the right-handed pitcher.

Darvish,25 has never posted an ERA above 2.00 in Japan. It is possible that other clubs will become involved in the bidding process for the Darvish who is viewed as another option for clubs who lost out on Mark Buhrle or C.J. Wilson.

For those wondering, MLB clubs have four days to bid on Darvish, then four days for Nippon-Ham Fighters to select a bid then thirty-days to work out a contract with the club with the winning bid.

– Jim Bowden of ESPN.com is reporting that C.J. Wilson has selected the hometown Angels over the tax-free state of Florida. Terms of the deal are not yet known.

– According to sources close to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports, the Miami Marlins have offered Wilson a six-year deal. Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports adds that if the Angels don’t match the Marlins’ offer he’ll sign with Miami.

– Even though Wilson’s decision is not expected by later today or maybe tomorrow, Danny Knobler of CBSSports says that the Angels are “clear favorite at this point.”

– According to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com, the Los Angeles Angels are apparently closing in on Wilson. A source close to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com that the Angels are “ramping up efforts to sign Wilson, and they expect to get a deal done today.

Hamilton could be a free agent at the end of next season, and all he’s asking is to be treated fairly. “Treat me fair,” he said. “Don’t come here with no ridiculously low stuff. You know, just be fair…. Obviously I love it here in Texas, but it always comes down to getting treated fairly.”

As Davison points out, for Hamilton to avoid hitting free agency, both parties would have to reach an agreement before opening day 2012, because the Rangers do not negotiate with potential free agents during the season.

“If something is going to happen, it’ll happen this winter or in spring training,” Hamilton said. “[During the season] I’m going to be focused on what I got to do and what I need to do to help the team win.”

The A’s are “very willing” to trade him this winter. Yesterday, we learned that the Angels were inquiring about him, and last week, we learned that the Reds, Blue Jays, Mariners, Rangers and Red Sox were among the teams interested in him.

Yesterday, we learned that there are at least five teams, including the Rangers, in for “the hunt” of Wilson, and that one of them made a six-year deal offers.

A source close to him says the team already had initial talks with Francis’ agent, and the sides will probably have further discussions at the winter meetings in Dallas next week. The team is also interested in right handed pitcher Edwin Jackson according to Morosi.

– Sources close to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports say that the Los Angeles Angels have met with free agent Aramis Ramirez and a contract offer is likely coming.

– Sources close to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the Texas Rangers are optimistic about signing Mike Napoli to a multi-year extension.  He’ll be a free agent after the 2012 season.

– According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Milwaukee Brewers’ last formal offer to Prince Fielder was for five years and $100 million, and he says they could stretch it to six years and $120 million.

– The Baltimore Orioles are among the teams interested in veteran catcher Jason Varitek according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. He adds that he finds it hard to imagine Varitek leaving the Red Sox.

– Another veteran catcher, Jorge Posada, is still looking for a job, and according to Heyman, he inquired with the Mets. Heyman adds that the Mets are looking for a backup catcher so Posada won’t probably be among their candidates as they are looking for defensive minded catchers.

“Taylor is an accomplished catcher who has shown an ability to handle a pitching staff and control the running game,” O’s executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said. “We believe he will be a nice complement to Matt Wieters and our pitching staff, and offensively, he will provide good power.”

In a parallel move, the Orioles designated left-handed pitcher Pedro Viola to make room on the 40-man roster for Teagarden.
