Florida Marlins make three-year offer to RHP Ricky Nolasco
Posted by: | Comments
Despite not being eligible for free agency until 2012, the Florida Marlins have made a three-year offer to right-handed pitcher Ricky Nolasco. However, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the two teams are still $10 million apart. Jackson reminds us that the Marlins had a bigger gap before agreeing to a deal with Josh Johnson.
Johnson agreed to a four-year, $39 million contract last January. Other pitchers that signed similar deals at this stage of their career include Johan Santana’s four-year, $40 million deal with the Minnesota Twins (2005-2008) and Zach Greinke’s four-year, $38 million deal with the Kansas City Royals (2009-2012).
Nolasco, 27, is 14-9 with a 4.51 ERA in 26 starts this season.
Former Mets and Royals pitcher Ambriorix Burgos forces ex-wife to eat rat poison

Former New York Mets and Kansas City Royals pitcher, Ambiorix Burgos, was charged with kidnapping and attempted murder after Dilenia Reynoso, his ex-wife, said she was forced to eat rat poison, according to the Associated Press.
A Dominican Republic judge, Freddy Frias ordered Burgos to remain in jail for three months while prosecutors prepare the case.
This isn’t the first time Burgos got in trouble. In 2008, he was accused in a fatal hit-and-run involving two women, but the charges were dropped. A New York jury found Burgos guilty of assualting his girlfriend in a hotel near Shea Stadium. He was sentenced to nine months in jail.
Burgos, 26, pitched for the Royals in 2005-2006 and with the Mets in 2007. In 144 career Major League games, he was 8-10 with a 4.60 ERA and 20 saves.
Willie Bloomquist interested in going to the National League?

Free-agent-to-be Willie Bloomquist of the Kansas City Royals warms to the idea of remaining with the team, according to Bob Dutton of The Kansas City Star, but he understands that there are other opportunities elsewhere.
“I’d be lying,” he said, “if I said the National League didn’t entice me. I could play pretty much every day whether I’m starting or not. That’s awful enticing.”
The 33-year-old has only played in 67 of the team’s 128 games and would like to be an everyday player.
“You can play him anywhere,” manager Ned Yost said, “and feel as comfortable as if you’ve got your starter out there. He knows how to play the game. He knows how to hit. He knows when to take advantage of situations.
Bloomquist has not been in active talks with the Royals regarding and extension. Read More→

Ozzie Guillen’s son takes shot at White Sox GM on Twitter
Posted by: | CommentsIt looks like Chicago White Sox GM Ken Williams was busy getting a laugh rather than watching his team play a doubleheader versus the Kansas City Royals last Saturday. Ozzie Guillen’s son, Oney, tweets:
Wow. Just saw the sox gm coming out of a comedy club in Shaumburg with a female friend. I guess he didn’t c the sox first loss
According to Doug Padilla of ESPNChicago.com, Williams called the tweets disrespectful, but was eventually laughing and joking behind closed doors with Ozzie Guillen on Tuesday.
“I’m sick of my name being in certain Twitters,” Williams said. “It’s disappointing. But I’ve since learned, especially dealing with Ozzie, that whatever I hear or read or any of that stuff that comes from the periphery, go to him and talk first. … Do you feel like this? Are these your thoughts?”
This isn’t the first time Oney Guillen got in trouble for voicing his opinion. He left his job in the White Sox scouting and video department during Spring Training due to controversy over Twitter messages at the time.

Jeff Francoeur open to trade to get more playing time
Posted by: | Comments
New York Mets outfielder Jeff Francoeur has told the club through his representatives that he is interested in being traded to a team that would play him more. Both sides confirmed the request, according to Andy McCullough of The Star-Ledger.
“We want to play every day,” Francoeur’s agent Molly Fletcher said yesterday. “We prefer to play in New York. But if we’re not going to play every day in New York, we absolutely welcome the opportunity to play every day somewhere else.”
Francoeur has been downgraded from starting outfielder to bench player who will platoon with rookie outfielder Fernando Martinez. Francoeur will likely starting when the team faces left-handed pitching.
Francoeuer has been the subject of trade rumors throughout July. However, many of those talks were shelved when Jason Bay was placed on the disabled list. When Bay returns, Francoeuer will likely get less playing time. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN said in late July that the New York Mets think they can trade Francoeur in August. There were talks of him being shipped off to Kansas City, especially since Francoeuer has a relationship with the Royals GM Dayton Moore from their time in Atlanta together.
Los Angeles Dodgers still searching for power hitter
Posted by: | Comments
According to a source close to Tony Jackson of ESPNLosAngeles.com says the Los Angeles Dodgers are still searching for power hitter to add to their roster before the August 31 deadline for players that have cleared waivers. Jackson adds that the Dodgers have been focused on first baseman Adam Dunn of the Washington Nationals and Jose Guillen, who was designated for assignment by the Kansas City Royals.
It is unlikely the Dodgers will acquire Dunn since it’s been several days since a team, presumably the Dodgers, made waiver claim on him. Per the waiver rules, the Nationals had until Monday to negotiate a deal. It is likely the Nationals pulled Dunn back from waivers and made him ineligible to be traded until the off-season. Had Dunn cleared waivers, the Nationals would have been free to negotiate a trade with all 29 teams.
The Royals designated Guillen last Thursday, and have 10 days to place Guillen on waivers, trade him or release him. It’s possible the Dodgers are in play on Guillen. The team could try to make a deal during this time period, or they could take the chance and wait until Guillen is released to get him for almost nothing. Read More→
