Right handed pitcher Edgmer Escalona was suspended for 10 days by his team, Leones del Caracas, as a disciplinary actions due to his attitude towards a managerial decision PRO Rumors has learned.
The Rockies reliever didn’t take well a decision his manager in Venezuela, Tim Teufel made. The team is not willing to take this kind of behavior from anybody says Victor David Melo of El Universal (Venezuelan newspaper).
“Escalona behaved in a way we don’t want out ballplayers to behave. That’s why he’ll be suspended for ten days without payment,” said team president, Luis Avila. “I can’t tell you how he took the disciplinary action, but he didn’t take well the game situation.”
The right hander was taken out of the game after allowing two singles and walking one batter in the top of the ninth and not recording an out. According to team executives his attitude wasn’t appropriate after being taken out of the game. “In this team there’s no room to tolerate indiscipline and we wanted to clear this up so nobody get surprised when they don’t see him in next week’s roster,” added Avila.
Escalona had a 1.75 ERA in 25.2 innings for the Rockies in 2011.

– Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon has been suspended three games for making contact with an umpire according to the Associated Press. Papelbon’s suspension was set to begin Tuesday night but the right hander is appealing.
Major league Baseball also fined Papelbon an undisclosed amount for his actions in Saturday’s game.
– Right handed pitcher Jason Marquis was suspended for throwing at a hitter last weekend after both teams had been warned reports the Associated Press. The Nationals starter was suspended five games and fined an undisclosed amount Tuesday by Major League Baseball.
– Esmerling Vasquez was also suspended by Major League baseball for throwing at a hitter in retaliation last weekend according to the Associated Press. Vasquez was suspended three games and also fined.
– Left handed pitcher Aroldis Chapman was sent to Double-A Carolina to resume his rehab assignment according to MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon.
The Cuban hurler has been battling control this season so the team decided to send him to Triple-A to work on his control. There, Chapman allowed seven runs over nine hits in just 4.2 innings, so the team decided to demote him again.

Former slugger Manny Ramirez’s spoke with ESPNDeportes.com after his abrupt retirement from baseball:
“I’m at ease,” Ramirez said via phone from his home in Miami. “God knows what’s best [for me]. I’m now an officially retired baseball player. I’ll be going away on a trip to Spain with my old man.”
Ramirez chose to walk away from the game rather than face a 100-game suspension for his second drug-related offense. Sources close to ESPN said that Ramirez tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs during Spring Training.
“We were obviously surprised when we found out about it today and hurt by what transpired,” said Rays vice president Andrew Friedman. “We were cautiously optimistic that he would be able to be a force for us.”
Others spoke out about their friend and teammate:
“It’s sad, man, to see a player with that much talent and with an unbelievable career get him out of the game,” Red Sox slugger David Ortiz said. “He got his issues like a lot of people know, but, as a player, I think he did what he was supposed to.”
“It’s unfortunate,” Johnny Damon said. “I don’t know everything that’s been brought up. All I know is he’s a great teammate and a great player. It’s going to be sad not seeing Manny Ramirez ever around a baseball field.”
