Marlins release outfielder Aaron Rowand

The Miami Marlins have released outfielder Aaron Rowand according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com. The Marlins signed him back in December 2011.
Rowand hit .233/.274/.347 with 4 HR’s and 21 RBI’s in 331 AB’s with the Giants in 2011 before he was released in September.
The 34-year old is a career .273/.330/.435 hitter with 136 HR’s and 536 RBI’s in 4374 AB’s throughout 11 years.

Rockies release Casey Blake

The Colorado Rockies have released third baseman Casey Blake according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports. The team agreed to a deal with Blake back in December, 2011.
Blake, 38, missed 88 games in 2011 due to injuries, and in 63 games with the Dodgers he hit .252/.342/.371 with 4 HR’s and 26 RBI’s. He is a career .264/.336/.442 hitter with 167 HR’s and 616 RBI’s. His career VORP (Value Over Replacement Player) is 201.8 and his FRAA (Fielding Runs Above Average) -9.3.

Red Sox release Carlos Silva

The Boston Red Sox announced that they have released Carlos Silva.
The Red Sox had signed Silva to a minor league deal with a base salary of $1mm with tons of incentives.
But Silva developed shoulder inflammation early in Spring Training and was never able to make it into a game before he was released.
Silva last pitched in the Majors in 2010 for the Cubs when the Venezuela native began the season going 8-0 in his first 11 starts. But after the All-Star break he went 1-3 with a 11.12 ERA. He finished the 2010 season with a 11-6 record and a 4.22 ERA in 113 innings throughout 21 starts.
In his career, Silva owns a 70-70 record and a 4.68 ERA.

Phillies release Dontrelle Willis

The Dontrelle Willis experiment in Philadelphia is over, as the Phillies have released the left-hander, the team announced.
Back in December, Willis signed a one-year deal worth $1mm as he was attempting to make the team and transition from a starter to a reliever.
Willis was attempting to earn a spot in the Philly bullpen but allowed five runs in 2 2/3 innings this spring and had a 16.88 ERA.

Athletics release Landon Powell

According to a team announcement, the Oakland Athletics have released catcher Landon Powell. Here’s more information from the team’s press release:
“Powell was a non-roster invitee this spring and was 2-for-6 (.333) in three games with the A’s. He spent nearly the entire 2011 season with Oakland but appeared in just 36 games, batting .171 with a home run and four RBI. The 29-year-old switch hitter spent his third consecutive season as the back-up catcher to Kurt Suzuki and has appeared in 123 games over the last three years with Oakland. Powell is a .207 career hitter with 10 home runs and 45 RBI in his three seasons in the majors. He was outrighted off the 40-man roster Jan. 5.”

Phillies release OF John Bowker

The Philadelphia Phillies have released outfielder John Bowker to allow him to play with a professional team in Japan, the club announced via a press release today.
Bowker played in 31 Major League games in 2011 with the Phillies and the Pittsburgh Pirates and hit .133 with two RBIs.

Yankees release outfielder Greg Golson

The New York Yankees have released outfielder Greg Golson according to Marc Carig of the Star-Ledger.
Golson hit .182/.250/.182 in 11 AB’s for the Yankees in 2011.
