Rumors for Ejection

Nationals’ infielder Jerry Hairston Jr. has been suspened and fined an undisclosed amount by MLB according to Mark Zuckerman of CSN Washington.

Hairston was fined with an undisclosed amount for “aggressive actions” with umpire Ed Hickox during Friday night’s game against the Padres. The infielder has appealed the decision and remained in the Nationals lineup today.

“I had no clue … in my wildest dreams I would get suspended,” he said. “That’s why I’m appealing. If I did something wrong, guys, I would admit it. If I did something wrong, I’d step up. But I didn’t push or shove him, and the video shows it.”

Hairston was ejected by Hickox in the seventh inning of Friday’s game after he complained about San Diego’s Clayton Richard quick-pitched before he could get set in the batter’s box says Zuckerman.

Here are a couple of videos from last Friday where Texas Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler came back onto the field to celebrate Nelson Cruz’s walk-off home run.

You can click here to see the first video where Kinsler is arguing balls and strikes in the bottom of the 10th inning. Click here.

Here’s the second video of the walk-off home run. You can clearly see Kinsler in his number 5 jersey at the celebration at home plate about halfway through.

The umpires must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed on Tuesday. They had no problem throwing out a manager, coach, player and even a fan from the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals game. Home plate umpire Bob Davidson must have really been irked – he tossed out Cardinals’ pitching coach Dave Duncan, Brewers’ center fielder Chris Dickerson, and a fan near home plate. Brewers’ manager Ken Macha was ejected earlier by another umpire. Here’s the video:

What did Macha say about the ejections:
“One coach, one manager, one player and one fan. Everybody got thrown out,” Macha said, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. “The guys that missed Hoffman’s 600th.”

On Saturday, injured Atlanta’s third baseman, Chipper Jones, was ejected from the Braves-Marlins for complaining about home-plate umpire Doug Eddings’ strike zone. David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says that Jones could be suspended for one-game when he returns from the disabled list (likely Opening Day 2011). O’Brien says, “A player ejected from a game while on DL’d usually faces a one-game suspension upon returning from the DL.” Jones is out for the year with a torn ACL.

Here’s the video of Jones getting thrown out:

6/10 14:39: Bumgarner was suspended by the Pacific Coast League for three games.  It is possible that Bumgarner may be called up to the San Francisco Giants to take the place of injured pitcher Todd Wellemeyer and start on Tuesday. Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News says pitcher Joe Martinez is another option.

6/8 15:34: Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Giants Minor League pitcher Madison Bumgarner “came unglued” after center fielder Eugenio Valez dropped a pop fly that should have been caught. He later had a problem with the umpires. Here’s the report from an eyewitness:

“Then he got into a beef with the first base umpire over a close play while covering first. Then got into a beef with the second base umpire over a pickoff play at second (in the seventh inning). The second base umpire tossed him after he lost his cool. He had to be physically restrained from the umpire by his teammates.”

Here’s the video of Bumgarner #40 (courtesy of TheEalgesfan09 – YouTube):

You’ll notice on the upper-edge of the screen, about the 0:50 mark, a ball is thrown towards center field.

Here’s video from yesterday’s game between the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels when catcher Jason Kendall and manager Ned Yost were ejected by home plate Mike Estabrook.

Estabrook got in front of Kendall after the catcher objected to a pitch that was called a ball instead of strike three.

“He got in my face, and it was unprofessional what he did,” Kendall said.

Estabrook is normally a Minor League umpire that was filling in for the game.

6/3 11:56: Here’s the video (no audio) of Bryce Harper’s ejection:

6/2 22:14: According to Patti Arnold of The Daily Sentinel, Southern Nevada catcher Bryce Haper was ejected from today’s NJCAA game. Harper is expected to be the number 1 pick in this year’s MLB draft by the Washington Nationals.

Arnold said, “After the called third strike by home plate umpire Don Gilmore, Harper swiped at the dirt with his bat and walked off the field. He apparently said something, because Gilmore immediately gave the ejection sign.”

Because of NJCAA rules, Haper cannot play tomorrow.
