– The Oakland Athletics have designated right handed pitcher Rich Thompson for assignment after just one appearance with the team. Thompson is 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA, 3.0 HR/9, 3.0 BB/9 and 9 SO/9 in 3.0 innings of work this season.
– The Arizona Diamondbacks have designated Jonathan Albaladejo for assignment. Albaladejo has a career 6-3 record with a 4.10 ERA, 1.1 HR/9, 3.9 BB/9 and 6.6 SO/9 in 74.2 innings throughout five Major League seasons with the Yankees and Diamondbacks.

Angels designate Rich Thompson

The Los Angeles Angels have designated Rich Thompson for assignment, MLB.com’s Alden Gonzalez reports. The move creates space for Brad Mills who was called-up today and is with the team in New York.
This season, Thompson had pitched 2 1/3 innings while allowing five hits and four runs. Last season, Thompson went 1-3 with a 3.00 era while posting a respectable 9.3 K/9.
Mills came to the Angels from the Blue Jays via the Jeff Mathis trade and was the Jays’ fourth round pick in 2007.
He has pitched in parts of the last three seasons for the Jays posting a 8.57 ERA.

Athletics designate Brandon Allen for assignment

The Oakland Athletics have designated 1B/OF Brandon Allen for assignment according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Allen was 0-7 with 5 SO’s this season for the A’s. He’s a career .205/.291/.375 with 11 HR’s and 38 RBI’s in 331 Major League at bats throughout four years.

Athletics designate Powell and Miller for assignment

In an announcement by the Oakland Athletics, the team has designated catcher Landon Powell and outfielder Jai Miller for assignment.
The move was done to accommodate the trade that sent Gio Gonzalez to the Nationals for right-handed pitcher A.J. Cole, right-handed pitcher Brad Peacock, left-handed pitcher Tom Milone and catcher Derek Norris.

Pirates designate RHP Jeremy Hefner for assignment

The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated right-handed pitcher Jeremy Hefner, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. The 40-man roster is now full with this move.
Hefner, 25, has a record of 46-34 with a 3.84 ERA in 131 appearances (120 starts) over five Minor League seasons

Pirates designate Fryer and Paul for assignment

The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated catcher Eric Fryer and outfielder Xavier Paul for assignment, according to a team announcement.
The team also added infeilder Matt Hague, outfielder Starling Marte, infielder Jordy Mercer, left-handed pitcher Rudy Owens, right-handed pitcher Duke Welker and left-handed pitcher Justin Wilson to the team’s 40-man roster.

Athletics designate Trystan Magnuson for assignment

The Oakland Athletics have designated right-handed pitcher Trystan Magnuson for assignment, according to an announcement by the team.
The 26-year-old pitcher made his Major League debut with the A’s this 2011 where he went 0-0 with a 6.14 ERA in nine relief appearances.

Royals claim LHP Aaron Laffey and DFA Jesse Chavez

The Kansas City Royals have announced that they have claimed left-handed pitcher Aaron Laffey off of outright waivers from the New York Yankees. To make room on the 40-man roster for Laffey, the team designated Jesse Chavez.

Chicago Cubs designate Berg and Schlitter for assignment

The Chicago Cubs have designated right-hander pitchers Justin Berg and Brian Schlitter, according to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune. In one of the roster places, the team added Carlos Zambrano to the team’s 40-man roster.
