Rumors for Arrest

Marlins reliever Juan Carlos Oviedo (formerly Leo Nunez), was arrested today and will be brought to justice for faking his identity according to the Associated Press.

“In this moment, Oviedo is detained in the American consulate and will be brought to justice for having a double identity,” said Maximo Baez Aybar, spokesman of the Dominican National Police. “That is a crime in our country and in the United States of America.”

Aybar added that Oviedo was asked to come to the American consulate as part of an investigation for using a fake identity under the name of Leo Nunez. Oviedo’s agent, Andy Mota, didn’t answer AP’s calls looking for a reaction regarding his client’s arrest.

Oviedo went 1-4 with a 4.06 ERA and 36 saves in 64.1 innings for the Marlins in 2011.

Manny Ramirez arrested

Posted by: Ryan | Comments View Comments

Manny Ramirez who has always been a love him or hate him type of guy, may have gained a few more haters as he was arrested today in Broward County, Florida on domestic violence related charges, sources close to FOXSports.com confirmed. Bond has not been set for Ramirez, meaning he will remain in custody overnight.

The Associated Press is reporting that Ramirez and his wife were arguing in their bedroom when he slapped her face, causing her to hit her head.

Ramirez denied hitting his wife, telling a deputy she hit her head after he shrugged her. Ramirez’s wife had injuries consistent with her story, but refused medical treatment.

As you may remember, Ramirez abruptly retired just as the season began as he was going to be suspended by MLB for 100 games for testing positive a second time for a banned drug.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have increased their initial $100,000 reward for information on the Bryan Stow’s offenders to $200,000 according to the Associated Press (via NBCSports.com).

Authorities are hoping that a bigger reward ($200,000) will lead them to the suspects in the brutal beating of Stow at Dodger Stadium in the Opening Day.

Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said they are looking at about 500 leads in the beating of Stow. There is currently 17 full-time detectives looking into the 500 various clues.  On a normal homicide, police will usually use two possibly four detectives.  So a staff of 17 detectives shows how dedicated LAPD is to finding the two suspects.  Detectives are also focusing on the potential get-away driver believed to be a female wearing a white Ethier jersey.

Seven weeks ago on opening day, Stow was left in a coma after a brutal beating by two unidentified Dodger fans. The shameless beating occurred in the parking lot of Dodger stadium after the game. Stow was targeted by the Dodger thugs as he was wearing a Giants jersey.

Reds starter Mike Leake was sentenced today to counseling and 30 hours of community service after pleading guilty to a charge reduced from theft to unauthorized use of property, reports CBS news.

Leake was arrested  two weeks ago as he was accused of  stealing $59.88 worth of T-shirts (6 total) from a Macy’s department store. According to police reports Leake was caught on security cameras at the Downtown Macy’s removing the security tags from six American Rag shirts. Leake attempted to conceal the items and leave the store where he was ultimately caught.

Of course someone who is making $425,000 for the season wouldn’t just straight out steal the shirts. Or would they? Before the Reds game today, Leake said the entire incident was a mistake as he was trying to exchange T-shirts he’d purchased on April 2 that were too small. Instead of doing what normal people do and return the items at a counter with an employee, he simply left the already-purchased T-shirts, picked up new ones and tried to leave the store. Leake added that he did have a credit-card statement that confirmed the original purchase, but he didn’t have the sales receipt.

“It was a serious lapse in judgment. I can’t tell you what was going on in my head. It was a bad mistake.”

Right handed pitcher Mike Leake was arrested today for stealing from a Macy’s store in Cincinnati reports John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer. He was booked into the Hamilton County Justice Center today on misdemeanor charges.

The Reds’ pitcher was arrested after Macy’s department store loss prevention employees stopped the Reds pitcher after they say he took $59.88 in property from the store.

According to police reports Leake was caught on security cameras at the Downtown Macy’s removing the security tags from six American Rag shirts. Leake attempted to conceal the items and leave the store where he was ultimately caught.

Leake’s salary is $425,000 for the 2011 season so why would he need to steal a $59.88 item is beyond all possible comprehension. The Reds have no comment at this time adds Fay.

According to a press release issued by the Oakland Athletics, outfielder Coco Crisp was arrested early on Tuesday morning on the suspicion of driving under the influence.  Here’s what the press release said:

“Coco Crisp was arrested and detained early this morning under the suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was released from the City of Scottsdale Jail this morning and arrived at Phoenix Municipal Stadium on time for team pre-game drills. The A’s are aware of the situation and take such matters seriously. The team and Coco will have no further comment until further details are available.”

Late on Wednesday, Crisp sent out this Tweet:
“Sorry to everyone! my family, friends, MLB and my fans. I know I let a lot of ppl down and again I am sorry. I’ll talk more 2morrow, Gnite.”

TMZ reported earlier on Wednesday that Crisp was pulled over by Scottsdale Police while he was driving his 2009 Rolls Royce Phantom.  He was stopped when one of the officers noticed him “failing to stay in one lane of traffic.” Crisp was out of jail that morning and participated in pregame drills.

Crisp under contract with the A’s for the 2011 on a $5.75 million contract.

Crisp is unfortunately note the first player in the last month to be arrested for charges similar to DUI.  Austin Kearns was arrested February 12th and Miguel Cabrera was arrested on February 17th.

Both Kearns and Cabrera dropped their profession and who they were as they tried to get out of being arrested.  It is not known if Crisp tried to get out of being arrested but the fact that he was driving his 2009 Rolls Royce Phantom obviously means he was somebody with money.

Maybe some people just don’t care about the Cleveland Indians or maybe they have pretty good media protection, but according to Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer, outfielder Austin Kearns was arrested for driving under the influence on February 12.  Word leaked out about the incident on Monday via The Jessamine County Journal.  The team was not aware of the arrest until it became public.

Kearns has a court date in Jessamine County, Kentucky on March 10.  Jessamine County is outside of Kearn’s hometown of Lexington.

“I really can’t say anything,” said Kearns. “There’s a legal process going on.”

Kearns will not leave camp to take care of the matters.

“My attorney will go for me,” said Kearns.

The team released this statement, “We are aware of Austin Kearns’ arrest on Feb. 12 and are in the process of gathering facts and discussing the matter with him. The Indians organization takes these issues very seriously and is disappointed by the circumstances. We will handle the matter internally and will not have any further comment until we have complete information about the incident and the legal process has run its course.”

Kearns told the sheriff’s deputy that he had “a couple bourbon and cokes” at Harry’s Bary in Lexington.  The outfielder refused a field sobriety test and was “very unsteady on his feet.”  Kearns “advised that he played professional baseball and asked if I could cut him a break.”

Detroit Tigers’ first baseman Miguel Cabrera has been arrested for DUI in the State of Florida according to the Associated Press (via ESPNDeportes.com).

St. Lucie’s County police reported that Cabrera’s car was smoking on the side of the road on Wednesday. Police reports say that Cabrera smelled of alcohol, his eyes were red and his speech slurred. The Venezuelan slugger resisted arrest and told the police “Do you know who I am? You don’t know anything about my problems.” He then picked up a bottle of Scotch whiskey and started drinking, the report states.

The 27-years old was charged with DUI and resisting an officer without violence. He posted a $1,350 bond and was released this morning.  The Tigers have not said anything about disciplining Cabrera, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.

According to the Seattle Times Geoff Baker, Milton Bradley has been arrested for violating California penal code section 422 – making a “criminal threat.”

PRO Rumors researched public jail log records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and we found the following (it can also be viewed at http://blog.prorumors.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Screen-shot-2011-01-18-at-7.46.52-PM1.png):

Bradley was arrested at 1040 hours by LAPD’s West Valley Division for a felony criminal threat.

For Bradley to be arrested for making criminal threats, the victim (confirmed by a source as an unidentified female) had to believe that Bradley was going to carry out the threat.  There also needed to be some type of evidence proving that Bradley had the means to carry out the threat out and that he actually did make those threats.

Seattle Mariners’ general manager, Jack Zduriencik, confirmed that Bradley had been arrested, according to Greg Johns of MLB.com.

“After reaching Milton Bradley’s representatives tonight, I was able to confirm that Milton had been arrested, and subsequently released, in Los Angeles,” Zduriencik said in a statement. “While we do not yet have full details on what occurred, we are aware of the situation and take it very seriously. We are in the process of determining the full circumstances of what occurred today. Until we have more information, we will not be able to comment further.”

Bradley’s court date of February 8 will be just 10 days before he is supposed to report to camp.
