Guthrie then agreed to a one-year deal with the Rockies for $8.2mm, thus avoiding arbitration.

Guthrie will be a free agent after the 2012 season and according to Connolly, he had been rumored to be on the trading block.

The New York Mets granted him free agency after the 2011 season.  Buchholz and the Mets announced last summer that the pitcher was dealing with emotional issues.

“If he signs with anyone, it would be with the Mets,” Pasti said. “The way they handled the situation with Taylor meant a lot to him. The Mets really cared about him. As of right now, Taylor is taking the year off. He’s feeling great, but not ready to get back into baseball. He’s taking it one day at a time.”

“We’re happy we’ve concluded the one-year portion of this,” Hamels’ agent, John Boggs, told ESPN.com. “And at the appropriate time, I’m sure we’ll have dialogue with the Phillies and continue talking about a multiyear deal.”

The left-hander and 2008 World Series MVP can become a free agent after the 2012 season.  The Phillies also agreed to a $930,000, one-year deal with infielder Wilson Valdez.

The Boston Red Sox would have to make a few roster moves if they want to sign Roy Oswalt, Rob Bradford of WEEI reports.  According to sources close to Bradford, Oswalt’s asking price is believed to be below $10 million that Hiroki Kuroda was given by the New York Yankees, and should the Red Sox move forward with the deal, the team would have to move some payroll in order to accommodate the pitcher.

Today, Jon Heyman of CBSSports is reporting that the sides are moving closer to a deal. It is unclear if Boston views Padilla as a starter or a bullpen piece. Last year for the Dodgers, Padilla worked out of the bullpen and was slated to be the everyday closer but suffered a season ending injury after only 8 2/3 innings.

In four seasons with Texas in the AL, Padilla went 43-34 with a 4.90 era.

After several lackluster seasons that began with the San Francisco Giants that led him around the Majors and Japan, Vogelsong had a resurgence in 2011 with an All Star selection.  He entered 2011 as long shot to make the team’s roster, but ended up being one of the Giant’s shining points.

The 31-year-old right-handed closer has pitched his entire nine-year career with the Philadelphia Phillies .  He had his best year in 2011 when he had 32 saves and a 2.37 ERA in 62 relief appearances.

Had the Angels not sealed the deal, Kendrick would be eligible for free agency for the first time in his career after the 2012 season.  The 28-year-old hit 2.85 with 18 home runs and 63 RBIs in 140 games in 2011 while earning a roster spot for the American League All Stars.
