Red Sox still looking at Roy Oswalt

By Ryan

The Boston Red Sox are continuing to speak with Roy Oswalt and his representatives, Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports.

With Hiroki Kuroda off the market, Oswalt along with Edwin Jackson are two of the more sought after quality arms still left on the market.

The difference between Jackson and Oswalt is that Oswalt is willing to accept a one-year deal with a salary of around $10mm, where as Jackson who is a Boras client wants a multiyear deal.

In 2011, Oswalt went 9-10 while posting a 3.69 era in 139 innings with the Phillies. He did average a career low with 6.0 strike outs per 9 innings and is coming off a series of injuries. Oswalt earned $16mm last season and made $1,777,777.78 for every win or $172,043,01 for every strikeout.

The Red Sox have already signed Aaron Cook to a minor league deal along with Justin Germano and appear to be interested in Vicente Padilla. Though none of these pitchers would be in camp on a guaranteed deal and could offer what Oswalt brings to the table.
