Hamilton wants a contract extension from the Rangers

The Texas Rangers and outfielder Josh Hamilton have had discussions about a contract extension according to Drew Davison of the Star Telegram. Although he adds that nothing is imminent.
Hamilton could be a free agent at the end of next season, and all he’s asking is to be treated fairly. “Treat me fair,” he said. “Don’t come here with no ridiculously low stuff. You know, just be fair…. Obviously I love it here in Texas, but it always comes down to getting treated fairly.”
As Davison points out, for Hamilton to avoid hitting free agency, both parties would have to reach an agreement before opening day 2012, because the Rangers do not negotiate with potential free agents during the season.
“If something is going to happen, it’ll happen this winter or in spring training,” Hamilton said. “[During the season] I’m going to be focused on what I got to do and what I need to do to help the team win.”
Hamilton ($8,750,000), hit .298/.346/.536 with 25 HR’s, 94 RBI’s, 80 runs and an OPS of .882. Hamilton earned $350,000 for every home run he got, or $93,085.11 for every RBI, or $47,043.01 for every time he got on base. Hamilton earned $72,314 for every game he played in (121 games played).
