Athletics could get San Jose territory rights

Sources close to Bob Nightengale of USA Today say that the Oakland Athletics will be granted permission by February to move to San Jose. The territory rights to San Jose are currently being held by the San Francisco Giants.
The decision is not official and sources close to the San Jose Mercury News (as reported by Joe Stiglich and Tracy Seipel) say that “nothing has changed. No decision has been made.”
A’s owner Lew Wolff says that he’s “very confident” that the league is close to clearing the way for his team to move to the South Bay.

Athletics designate Powell and Miller for assignment

In an announcement by the Oakland Athletics, the team has designated catcher Landon Powell and outfielder Jai Miller for assignment.
The move was done to accommodate the trade that sent Gio Gonzalez to the Nationals for right-handed pitcher A.J. Cole, right-handed pitcher Brad Peacock, left-handed pitcher Tom Milone and catcher Derek Norris.

Cubs come to terms with Manny Corpas

The Chicago Cubs have come to terms with relief pitcher Manny Corpas, according to a source close to Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com. The deal will come become official on Friday. Terms of the deal are not yet public.

Twins sign Jason Marquis to one-year deal

The Twins have signed starting pitcher Jason Marquis, to a one-year $3mm deal Scott Miller of CBSSports reports.
Marquis who started the year with the Nationals and was later traded to the Diamondbacks, made 23 starts while posting a 4.43 era, but finished the season on the DL with a fractured fibula.
The Mets and Marlins were also rumored to have interest in the right-hander.
In 11 seasons, Marquis has a career 4.55 era.

Nationals pushing hard for Gio Gonzalez

The Washington Nationals are pushing hard for Oakland Athletics’ pitcher Gio Gonzalez, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. Heyman adds that the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, Miami Marlins and New York Yankees are also interested in the pitcher.
