Nationals set to visit Mark Buehrle
Posted by: | Comments
According to multiple sources close to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post, Nationals officials, led by their GM, Mike Rizzo, will visit Mark Buehrle and his representatives from CAA Sports today at his house at St. Louis.
Kilgore says that the Nationals are looking for a veteran starter to go with their young, talented staff. “The pitcher we’re looking for is a good leader type of guy who can throw a lot of innings,” said Rizzo earlier this month after signing Chien-Ming Wang (via Kilgore). “He’s shown he can win in the big leagues and really lead our staff, not by having the best stuff on the staff, but by showing how to be a professional and how to be a winner and how to pitch 200 innings in a season many, many times. That’s the kind of the guy we’re looking for.”
Buerhle was 13-9 with a 3.59 ERA in 205.1 innings throughout 31 starts with the White Sox in 2011.

According to Danny Knobler of CBSSports, the Oakland Athletics are “very willing” to trade closer Andrew Bailey. He says that although the A’s are willing to trade anyone, Bailey is probably at the top of their list.
Knobler adds that the Blue Jays have inquired about him and Buster Olney of ESPN says the Reds and the A’s are talking about a possible deal involving Bailey. A source close to Jim Bowden of ESPN says that the A’s are interested in Yonder Alonso as part of any potential deal.
Bailey was 0-4 with a 3.24 ERA and 24 saves in 41.2 innings for the A’s in 2011.

Rockies closer Huston Street has been drawing interest from teams like the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports. The Rockies have shown interest in Jeremy Guthrie, but the Orioles would have to get another starter in order to move Guthrie.
The New York Post (via Rosenthal) says that at one point the Mets tried to trade Mike Pelfrey for Street, but then they backed off. The 27-year old closer is owed around $7.5-8 million for 2012 and he has a $9 million option for 2013 or a $500,000 buyout.
Street was 1-4 with a 3.86 ERA with 29 saves in 58.1 innings with the Rockies in 2011.

Rockies express interest in Jonny Gomes
Posted by: | Comments
The Colorado Rockies have expressed interest in outfielder Jonny Gomes, Troy E. Renck of The Denver Post reports. The team previously made an attempt at signing Grady Sizemore before he entered serious discussions with the Cleveland Indians.
The team is in search of a platoon-mate for outfielder Seth Smith and Renck says that the club’s pursuit of Gomes is tied to Smith’s future. Renck adds, “Colorado has offered Smith to the Braves for [Martin] Prado and will be creative in trying to get a deal done, though it is reluctant to include a center fielder.”
