Reyes and Mets have yet to begin contract talks

By juan

According to Nick Klopsis of Newsday, contract talks between the Mets and Jose Reyes haven’t started yet. Reyes said yesterday that the Mets haven’t reached out to him so far.

“They’ll probably start up within the next few days,” said Reyes. “But right now, everything’s quiet.” The short stop has made it clear that he would like to stay in New York, but he knows that it might not be possible.

“I’ve always said that I wanted to stay here,” he added. “But at the same time, I understand that this is a business, and we just need to wait and see what happens.”

Back in August, we gave a list of possible suitors for Reyes. The 28-year old short stop hit .337/.384/.493 with 7 HR’s and 44 RBI’s in 537 AB’s for the Mets in 2011.
