Kerry Wood may retire after season

By Allan

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Kerry Wood may retire if the Chicago Cubs are not interested in bringing him back for the 2012 season, Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com reports.

Wood is out for the season due to a torn meniscus in his left knee that he suffered while squatting in the bullpen on Saturday.  He’ll have surgery next week and there will be a six-week recovery period.

The reliever signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract before the 2011 season and finished with a 3-5 record with a 3.35 ERA.
