Carlos Zambrano done for the remainder of 2011

The Chicago Cubs announced today that Carlos Zambrano will remain at home for the remainder of the 2011 season. The team added via the press release that the grievance process between them and Zambrano is not resolved yet and Major League Baseball, the club and the Players Association will process the grievance during the offseason.
Zambrano was placed on the disqualified list in mid-August and was to receive no pay for 30 days. The Cubs will resume his salary at the end of his time on the disqualified list. The right-hander is in the fourth-year of his five-year contract and is making $17.875 million this season.

Seattle Mariners release INF Matt Tuiasosopo

The Seattle Mariners have released infielder Matt Tuiasosopo from their 40-man roster, according to a team press release.
The 25-year-old Tuiasosopo was the Mariners’ third-round selection in the 2004 June Amateur Draft. In 116 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season, he hit .226 with 14 home runs and 77 RBIs. He has appeared in 71 Major League games between 2008-2010.

Atlanta Braves release Wes Helms

The Atlanta Braves have released Wes Helms, according to a Tweet by David O’Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The Braves signed Helms to a a Minor League contract on August 17 after being released by the Florida Marlins a few days prior. Florida previously extended Helms’ contract for one-year at $1 million in August of 2010. Had Helms made the Major League roster, then the Braves would have been responsible for the prorated portion of the Major League minimum and the Marlins would have been responsible for the difference.

The San Diego Padres have claimed Jeff Fulchino off waivers from the Houston Astros, according to a team announcement. In a corresponding move, the team designated Pat Neshek for assignment.

Mets acquire Herrera and Rosario from Brewers

he New York Mets announced today that the team has acquired left-handed pitcher Daniel Herrera and right-handed pitcher Adrian Rosario from the Milwaukee Brewers to complete the Francisco Rodriguez trade that occurred on July 12. The Mets also sent cash to Milwaukee in the deal.
The 26-year-old Herrera was 1-4 with a 2.20 ERA and three saves in the Minor Leagues this season.
Rosario, 21, is 4-6 with a 4.32 ERA in 35 games (14 starts) in Single-A (two teams) this season.

Orioles claim RHP Pedro Strop off waivers

The Baltimore Orioles have claimed right-handed reliever Pedro Strop off waivers from the Texas Rangers, according to an announcement by the team (via Dan Connolly of The Baltimore Sun). Strop was the player to be named later from Wednesday’s trade that sent Michael Gonzalez to the Rangers.
In 11 relief appearances for the O’s this season, Strop was 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA.
