Rumors for August, 2011

The Colorado Rockies have designated Edgar Gonzalez for assignment according to the team’s official Twitter account. Left handed pitcher J.C. Romero will be taking his roster spot.

A couple of days ago, Troy Renck of the Denver Post reported that Romero was scheduled to see a doctor and that if all went well he could be active for today’s game.

Gonzalez had a 9.00 ERA in 2 innings in one apparance with the Rockies in 2011.

Long-time New York Yankee Jorge Posada told the New York Post (as reported by Mark Hale) that he would consider playing for another team after his current contract expires at the end of the season.

“It could [happen],” Posada told The Post on Sunday. “I don’t know what’s going to happen after this year. But we’ll see.”

Posada later said that leaving New York would be difficult for him.

According to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, outfielder Alfonso Soriano has cleared waivers and the Cubs are willing to pay most of the $50 million pluss owed to him.

Heyman adds that Carlos Lee has also cleared waivers and that he’s a DH playing for a National League team, so any team looking for an offensive boost could consider Lee or Soriano.

Back in July, we learned that the Cubs would be willing to deal Soriano if the right offer comes along. Soriano is hitting .247/.286/.472 with 20 HR’s and 58 RBI’s in 356 AB’s for the Cubs in 2011. Lee is hitting .263/.321/.417 with 11 HR’s and 68 RBI’s in 441 AB’s for the Astros in 2011.
