The New York Yankees have claimed left handed pitcher Raul Valdes off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Valdes was designated for assignment last week by the Cardinals. He could help in the Majors as a lefty reliever for the Yankees in case they need him.

The left hander was 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 5.1 innings throughout seven games in 2011 with the Cardinals.

The Baltimore Orioles have designated Luis Lebron for assignment according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. This movement will create room for Dylan Bundy on the 40-man roster.

Lebron was 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 8 innings throughout 8 games for the Orioles’ Rookie and Class-A teams in 2011.

Right handed pitcher Carlos Zambrano was placed on the disqualified list by the Cubs last week after being ejected for throwing at Chipper Jones and added that he was “retiring” while he cleaned out his locker.

After cooling off, Zambrano began “an image-fixing publicity tour of handpicked media outlets” as Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times points out. Although Wittenmyer believes this will not help Zambrano’s cause.

Cubs GM, Jim Hendry, is reluctant to revisit the issue. ‘‘There’s nothing else to be said,’’ Hendry said. ‘‘The process will run its course.’’

Wittenmyer says that even if half the suspension is upheld, it would be almost impossible for Zambrano to return to the team in 2011. Besides that he could be facing another six games suspension for throwing at Jones.

The Cubs will try again to move Zambrano in the offseason. They tried to sell him to the Yankees earlier this year, but they showed “zero interest” in him. Zambrano is owed another $18 million for next season, and the Cubs would have to eat a major portion, if not all, of that money if they want to move him.

Zambrano is 9-7 with a 4.82 ERA in 145.2 innings throughout 24 starts for the Cubs this season.
