Left handed pitcher Barry Zito was placed on the Disabled List again, with a supposed recurrence of the ankle injury that landed him on the DL earlier this year reports Carl Stewart of the San Jose Mercury News.

This movement will create room for Jonathan Sanchez who was activated from the Disabled List. According to Stewart, if Zito had been hooked up to a lie detector after the game as he explained his injury, “the needle might have jumped like his ERA the past two weeks.”

Prior to the game, Zito didn’t even mention to the media that he was experiencing problems in his ankle again, but after meeting with manager Bruce Bochy and GM Brian Sabean for a while, he came up with the ankle story.

There has been a lot of speculation about what is going to happen with Zito, but the “real decision” about him as Stewart points out, will be postponed indefinitely. People are expecting that the decision will ultimately be designating Zito for assignment, but after he’s back from the DL we will just have to wait and see.

Zito is 3-4 with a 5.62 ERA in 49.2 innings throughout nine starts with the Giants in 2011.

Rockies’ slugger, Jason Giambi, told GM, Dan O’Dowd that he won’t mind being traded in August as long as he can return to the team in 2012 according to Jim Armstrong of the Denver Post.

“As far as I know, I’m here,” said Giambi. “I told Dan that whatever goes on, as long as it doesn’t hurt my chances of coming back here, I’m up for it.

“That’s the thing I wanted most for them to hear. If there was a situation where it was, ‘Oh, I think this would be a good opportunity for you,’ that would be fine as long as they know I want to come back.”

Yesterday, we wrote about the possibilityof Giambi being placed on waivers. Teams like the Phillies, who already have already had conversations with the Rockies regarding him, as well as the Braves, Brewers, Cardinals, Pirates and Giants could be interested in acquiring his services.

Giambi said he wouldn’t mind being a DH again if he’s traded to an American League team, but he’s not sure if he could do it every day. “I love my role here,” he said. “Could I do more? Yeah. The DH thing is still out there, but I’d still need days off. I wish I could do more, but Father Time catches up to us all.”

The 40-year old veteran is hitting .260/.357/.625 with 10 HR’s and 24 RBI’s in 96 AB’s for the Rockies in 2011.
