Rangers acquire Mike Adams

By juan

The Texas Rangers have acquired right handed pitcher Mike Adams from the San Diego Padres for prospects Double A pitchers Joe Wieland and Robbie Erlin, both considered top-25 Rangers prospect, Jim Bowden of ESPN reports.

Originally, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports had reported that Heath Bell had been traded to the Rangers. The report was quickly changed as Mike Adams was infact the relief pitcher that had been traded.

The Padres were originally asking for both Joe Wieland and Robbie Erlin for Bell, but the Rangers did not want to include both for a rental player.

With Adams, they retain control for the 2012 season as well.

Adams sports a 1.13 era with a 9.2 k/9 ratio.

Adams is making $2.35mm this season and will see a salary bump next season as he enters his final season of arbitration.
