By
Here’s the running list of Heath Bell rumors leading up to the trade deadline:
– According to Jim Bowden of ESPN, closer Heath Bell will stay in San Diego. He says that the compensation picks they would get from Bell were better than the offers on the table.
– Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated reports that the Phillies are still in on Bell.
– Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the Angels have “minimal interest” in Bell.
– According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the San Diego Padres might keep Bell if offers don’t improve. If they keep him, they will get compensation picks if he walks away in free agency.
– Sources close to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports say that the Rangers are losing momentum on Heath Bell. He adds that the Cardinals are still a possibility for the closer.
–Buster Olney of ESPN notes that the Yankees are viewed as a long shot to acquire Bell. But he also mentions that the deadline is 4 hours away and a long shot can change to favorites very quickly.
–Jayson Stark of ESPN adds that the Phillies are also still in on Bell and are also looking at Mike Adams.
–Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Yankees are “in” on Bell. If they acquired him, they would have two closers working the seventh and eight with Bell and Soriano paving the way the Rivera.
– According to a source close to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the San Diego Padres’ closer, Heath Bell, will be traded on Sunday. The Texas Rangers remain the front-runner, but the St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees are showing interest in the All Star reliever.
