White Sox will keep Omar Vizquel in the Majors
Posted by: | Comments
It has been rumored lately that the White Sox could sacrifice Omar Vizquel’s roster spot to make room for Dayan Viciedo. But manager Ozzie Guillen disagrees with that train of thought according to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun Times.
‘‘Omar has been great since we got him,’’ Guillen said. ‘‘He does his role very well. He hasn’t had as much playing time, but every time, he contributes. He’s great in the clubhouse and in the dugout. A lot of people lean on him and talk to him.’’
As usual, Guillen dismissed the rumors by being him, ‘‘Well, those guys on talk radio, their name isn’t Kenny Williams or Jerry Reinsdorf or Ozzie Guillen,’’ he said. ‘‘If people [don't see] what Vizquel [can] do for us, wow. They don’t know too much about baseball.’’

Tampa Bay Rays likely keeping James Shields
Posted by: | Comments
The Tampa Bay Rays have pulled James Shields off the market, Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports. Though the Rays never really had any interest in trading their very affordable ace, they did put his name out there to gauge the interest in him.
Shields is set to earn $7 million in 2012, $9 million in 2013 and $12 million in 2014 (all club options though you would have to be a dummy not to pick up these options the way he has been throwing the ball).
Shields is 9-8 with a 2.53 era while posting career best numbers with 8.7 K/9 and giving up only 6.8 H/9.
