The Tigers and Mariners have agreed to a deal that will send RHP Doug Fister and David Pauley to the Tigers for Charlie Furbush, Casper Wells and Francisco Martinez who is a top prospect reports Jon Heyman of SI.com.
Martinez was ranked as the 4th best prospect in the Tigers system by Baseball America entering into the season. He has good bat speed but has suspect power.
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN adds that Fister, who is making$436,500, fits the Tigers budget better than a pricey veteran. He is cheaper and has more upside than Jeremy Guthrie and Jason Marquis both pitchers the Tigers had been linked to.
Danny Knobler of CBSSports noted early on that left Charlie Furbush would be part of the package Seattle received. He also noted that the Tigers were looking to acquire a bullpen arm from Seattle as well but mentioned the bullpen piece would not be Brandon League.
Fister is expendable for the Mariners given the fact they have Felix Hernandez and Michael Pineda in the Majors and possibly Daniel Hultzen and Taijuan Walker coming up soon Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated notes.
Fister is 3-12 but has a 3.33 ERA with a 5.5 k/9 rate. Fister could be a better option then some of the other pitchers the Tigers have been linked to since Fister would be under team control until 2015.

Here is the PRO Rumors’ Friday Rumor Mill. With only two days left until the trade deadline, the trade rumors are going to start picking up. Stay with us to see if your team picks up that one piece they may need to push them over the top and into the playoffs.
– Sources close to Scott Miller of CBS Sports say that the Minnesota Twins are getting interest on Michael Cuddyer and Jason Kubel, but they’re unlikely going to trade either.
– According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports, the Atlanta Braves remain confident they will land an outfielder. The Braves are currently pursuing B.J. Upton, Michael Bourn, Carlos Quentin, Ryan Ludwick and Josh Willingham.
– Trade interest in Jamey Carroll of the Los Angeles Dodgers has died. There is a “touch” of interest in Rafael Furcal. (Dylan Hernandez, Los Angeles Times).
– Cardinals are looking for shortstop help in addition to speaking with the Padres about Heath Bell. (Ken Rosenthal, FOX Sports)
– A rival executive says that the Cincinnati Reds are focused on Michael Bourn according to Buster Olney of ESPN. Bourn would answer their desire to add a lead-off hitter for 2011 and beyond says Olney.
–Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports says that the Phillies are closing in on a deal for Hunter Pence. The Braves though may make a last push to try and swoop in and take Pence away from their division rival.
– A source close to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports says that the Phillies remain active in talks for Padres’ relievers. He adds that the Phillies prefer Mike Adams over Heath Bell because he is under team control for more time.
– According to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, it is very likely that Hunter Pence gets traded. He adds that the Phillies are front runners, and the Indians have joined the Reds and Red Sox as the other teams interested in the outfielder.
– Jim Bowden of ESPN reports that the Indians are still in on Jason Marquis, Aaron Harang, Jeremy Guthrie and Ryan Ludwick.
– The Cleveland Indians are still looking for another bat in addition to starting pitching such as Ubaldo Jimenez. (Ken Rosenthal, FOX Sports).
–The Tigers are no longer interested in Hiroki Kuroda reports Jim Bowden of ESPN. It is unknown if Kuroda said he would not waive his no-trade clause to go to Detroit, or if the Tigers decided to move in another direction. Kuroda suitors are down to the Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers and Indians.
– Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated is reporting that Koji Uehara is generating “big interest” and he will end up somewhere.
– Jim Bowden of ESPN hears that the Marlins are telling teams that Leo Nunez is not available.
– The Dodgers who would have to win out to make the playoffs (ok not really) may not be able to trade Hiroki Kuroda like they had planned. Jayson Stark of ESPN points out that the Dodgers are looking for a young starting pitcher or catcher in return who is close to Major League ready. He also notes that clubs still aren’t sure if he will waive his no-trade clause.
Jim Bowden of ESPN notes that the Yankees are refusing to include Montero, Romine or Sanchez in any Kuroda deal. But that may change as they realize their rotation is a mess after CC and the deadline inches closer.
– According to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, the Boston Red Sox are aggressively pursuing Ubaldo Jimenez. Heyman adds that the Indians, Reds and Blue Jays are also interested, and that the Yankees are lurking.
– The Houston Astros aren’t liking the prospects that the Phillies are offering for Hunter Pence. The prospect pool may include Domonic Brown. (Jon Heyman, Sports Illustrated)
– Buster Olney of ESPN says that there’s still “zero enthusiasm” within the Braves organization about giving up any of the” core 4″ pitching prospects. Julio Teheran, Arodys Vizcaino, Mike Minor and Randall Delgado.
– According to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, the Rays are being more reasonable with their asking price for B.J. Upton than the Astros are for Hunter Pence.
– The Denard Span- Drew Storen talks are at a critical point according to a source close to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports. The Twins are unhappy with the Nationals offer and the Nationals are worried about Span’s concussion.
–Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports is reporting that the Reds are not only looking at Hunter Pence but also Michael Bourn.
–The Tiger are interested in Ubaldo Jimenez and would almost certainly have to include Rick Porcello and/pr Jacob Turner, Ken Danny Knobler of CBSSports reports.

The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired Hunter Pence from the Houston Astros, according to a press release issued by the Phillies.
Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi, of FOX Sports, adds that first baseman Jonathan Singleton,right-handed pitcher Jarred Cosart and Josh Zeid will be involved in the trade in addition to a player to be named later.
Jayson Stark of ESPN adds that the Astros are sending $2 million in cash to the Phillies. Pence is due $2.2 million over the rest of the season and Stark says that had the money not been sent, the Phillies would have been over the luxury tax.
Singleton was ranked as the 2nd best prospect (behind Domonic Brown) in the Phillies system but was blocked at first base through 2016 by Ryan Howard. Singleton possess a veteran eye as he is able to recognize pitches easily which goes along with the plus power he possess.
Cosart was ranked as the 4th best prospect in the Phillies system. Cosart is a right-handed pitcher with a fastball that sits around 94-98MPH, average curveball and advanced command. Cosart projects as a potential number one starter or closer.
