Cardinals acquire Rafael Furcal

Posted by: juan | Comments View Comments

Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated has confirmed that Rafael Furcal has approved the trade and will be headed to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers will receive Class AA outfielder Alex Castellanos. The righthanded-hitting outfielder was a 10th round pick out of Belmont Abbey College in 2008 (Information obtained from the Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Disptach).

Yesterday we learned that both teams were in serious talks about Furcal, and that the short stop would have to waive his no-trade clause to make it happen.

Though it would seem a given that he would waive  no-trade clause since the Dodgers plan to play top prospect Dee Gordon in September. This is an issue as Furcal will be a free agent after the season and is looking to up his stock.

Furcal was also linked to the Milwaukee Brewers earlier today. The veteran short stop is hitting .197/.272/.248 with 1 HR and 12 RBI’s in 137 AB’s for the Dodgers in 2011.
