Although he hasn’t filed his official retirement papers with Major League Baseball, the 30-year-old right-handed pitcher Doug Waechter has decided to retire, Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times reports.
“I know how lucky I am,” Waechter said. “I got to do a lot of things a lot of people don’t get the opportunity to do. It was a great ride, and I had a blast doing it.”
Waechter said he plans to work with his brother selling orthopedic devices or he may do TV work with Bright House Sports Network.
“The arm is held together now with duct tape,” he said. “Or at least that’s what the scouts are saying.”
In six big league seasons, Waechter is 18-27 with a 5.34 ERA with the Tampa Bay Rays, Florida Marlins and the Kansas City Royals.
