In an interview with St. Louis Cardinals’ GM John Mozeliak, he tells Jim Bowden of Inside Pitch that the team has not had any conversation with the Philadelphia Phillies regarding J.C. Romero.

It was reported on June 16 by Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the Cardinals may have an interest in Romero.

Mozeliak recently said he’s searching for bullpen help, but he added that the availability is tight at this time of the season.

Romero was 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA in 24 relief appearances for the Phillies this season.  This was Romero’s fifth season with Philadelphia.

Giants interested in Mark Ellis?

Posted by: juan | Comments View Comments

The San Francisco Giants are looking for a catcher since they lost Buster Posey to a season-ending surgery, but they also need help up the middle and could be interested in Mark Ellis according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

A source close to Schulman says the Giants have asked questions about the Athletics’ second baseman. Another source close to Schulman says that Brewers backup catcher, George Kottaras, could be a possibility for them.

He might not be a great defender but knows how to draw a walk and recently was recalled from the Minors because of how well he was hitting says Schulman.

Ellis is hitting .211/.245/.287 with 1 HR and 15 RBI’s in 209 AB’s this season for the Athletics. Kottaras is hitting .290/.324/.516 with 2 RBI’s in 31 AB’s in 2011 since he was recalled to the Majors.

According to Bill Shakin of the Los Angeles Times, Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, has rejected the proposed television contract between the Dodgers and FOX.

This decision invalidates the divorce settlement between Frank McCourt and Jamie McCourt. Selig rejected the contract on the first business day after the McCourts announced a settlement contingent upon approval of that contract adds Shakin.

If McCourt cannot make the Dodgers’ June 30 payroll, Selig could seize the team and put it up for sale. McCourt said Friday he could meet that payroll, but a person familiar with his finances said he had “no chance” without the television money says Shakin.
