Retired outfielder Carl Everett arrested for assault with a deadly weapon

Former Major League outfielder Carl Everett was jailed on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges after getting in a dispute with his wife on Monday night in Hillsborough County, Florida.  Everett pointed a gun at her head and then broke two cell phones after she attempted to call for help, according to Howard Altman of The Tampa Tribune. The 39-year-old is being held in jail with no bond set.

The argument reportedly escalated when Everett pointed a silver handgun and pressed it against his wife’s head.  Everett’s wife, Linda Everett, tried to call 911, but her phone was grabbed by the outfielder, and he broke it.  The wife tried to grab another phone to call for help, but that phone was also broken by Everett.

Everett played from 1993-2006 and during his time with eight Major League teams, he amassed a .271/.341/.462 average with 202 home runs in 1405 games played.
