The Boston Red Sox have designated left handed pitcher Dennys Reyes for assignment according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
The team also placed Matt Albers on the 15-day Disabled List. To fill Reyes and Albers’ spots, the Red Sox called up Alfredo Aceves and Felix Doubront.
Reyes was battling for the final bullpen spot in Spring Training. Though he did put up a 2.45 ERA in Spring the problem was, Spring stats means next to nothing. Per the contract that he signed in early February, Reyes’ contract cost the Red Sox $900,000 for the six games he was on the team’s active roster.
Left handed relief pitcher Hideki Okajima was also in the running to make the team but had options left, which ultimately resulted in Okajima being sent down.
So far this season, Reyes allowed 3 runs in only 1.2 innings while giving up 2 hits, 2 walks and also hit two batters.
