Nick Cafardo on Ortiz, Lowrie, Youkilis, and Scutaro
By
Here’s the latest from the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo:
– David Ortiz believes that “April is April” and the first month of the season “doesn’t matter.” He adds that it’s “July, August, September when things get tough.”
– The Red Sox will have a tough decision if Ortiz has a good 2011 season. He’s a free agent after the year.
– Cafardo wonders if Jed Lowrie proves that he can play a full season, would the Red Sox consider trading Kevin Youkilis. One NL GM doesn’t think the Sox will trade Youkilis.
– Marco Scutaro will be valuable to a team looking for a shortstop or second baseman. The Phillies have mentioned him internally.
– The Angels have been exploring deals for catcher Jeff Mathis now that they have committed to Hank Conger.
