Nick Cafardo on Dodgers, Glavine, Gordon and Upton
By
Here’s the latest from the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo:
– Don’t expect Dodgers’ owner Frank McCourt to just sell his team for $900 million – $1 billion. Sources close to McCourt say that he’s “flabbergasted by Selig’s actions”.
– Outfielder Alex Gordon is starting to live up to expectations with The Royals. He’s hitting .361 with one home run and 14 RBIs.
– Scoring has been on the decline for the last five years. Major League teams are averaging just 4.31 runs per game this season.
– Ryan Doumit and Chris Snyder of the Pittsburgh Pirates could be trade candidates to fix the catching issues in Boston.
– B.J. Upton could be traded if the Rays fall out of contention, or even if they’re in contention.
– GM Mike Rizzo of the Washington Nationals is thought to be shopping for a center fielder.
– Former pitcher Tom Glavine is exploring the possibility of joining a group that could make a bid to purchase the NHL’s Thrashers.
– Joe Gilbert, special assistant to the White Sox, could put together a group of investors if Frank McCourt has to sell the Dodgers.
– Tom Werner, chairman of the Red Sox, eliminated himself from pursuing ownership of the Dodgers.
