Jered Weaver makes history with 6-0 start

By Ryan

The Angels are fresh off an uneventful weekend where they were swept by the Red Sox and looked over matched in almost every aspect of the game. Thankfully for the Angels, the A’s came to town today and they sent Jered Weaver to the mound who happens to be the hottest pitcher in all of baseball.

In his first five starts this season, Weaver has gone 5-0 with a 1.23 ERA while averaging a little over seven innings a start. Not a bad guy to help your team end a four-game skid.

Weaver came through when his team needed him by pitching his second straight complete game, while allowing seven hits, 10 strike outs and lowering his ERA to 0.99.

Weaver is the first pitcher in the majors with six victories in his team’s first 23 games since Randy Johnson did it with the 1992 Arizona Diamondbacks . Johnson when on that year to a 24-5 record with a 2.32 ERA that year and winning the NL Cy Young Award.

With this victory, Weaver becomes the fourth overall pitcher to reach 6-0 (March/April) in MLB history since Brandon Webb did it in 2008.

The Angels have a total of 13 victories meaning that Weaver has accounted for almost half of the teams wins.
