The San Francisco Giants are letting teams know that outfielder Nate Schierholtz is available, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports. Schierholtz could be the “odd-man” out when Andres Torres returns from his Achilles injury.
Schierholtz was a trade candidate late in Spring Training when the team had an abundance of outfielders in addition to prized prospect Brandon Belt. A late injury to Cody Ross prevented the possibility of a trade.
Through 17 games this season, Schierholtz is hitting .226/.226/.387 with one home run and three RBIs.
Jered Weaver makes history with 6-0 start

The Angels are fresh off an uneventful weekend where they were swept by the Red Sox and looked over matched in almost every aspect of the game. Thankfully for the Angels, the A’s came to town today and they sent Jered Weaver to the mound who happens to be the hottest pitcher in all of baseball.
In his first five starts this season, Weaver has gone 5-0 with a 1.23 ERA while averaging a little over seven innings a start. Not a bad guy to help your team end a four-game skid.
Weaver came through when his team needed him by pitching his second straight complete game, while allowing seven hits, 10 strike outs and lowering his ERA to 0.99.
Weaver is the first pitcher in the majors with six victories in his team’s first 23 games since Randy Johnson did it with the 1992 Arizona Diamondbacks . Johnson when on that year to a 24-5 record with a 2.32 ERA that year and winning the NL Cy Young Award.
With this victory, Weaver becomes the fourth overall pitcher to reach 6-0 (March/April) in MLB history since Brandon Webb did it in 2008.
The Angels have a total of 13 victories meaning that Weaver has accounted for almost half of the teams wins.

Tony La Russa’s daughter becomes a cheerleader for the Raiders

Tony LaRussa’s daughter, Bianca LaRussa has become one of the newest members of the Oakland Raiders cheerleading squad according to her Twitter account. Bianca attended the cheerleading tryouts and was picked.
She says it’s a goal and a dream come true to become a Raiderette. So, with the NFL on the verge of a lockout, we can only hope they don’t so we can see Tony’s daughter make her dream come true.
Tony, once the manager of the Oakland Athletics, will have to root for the Raiders from now on, or at least pretend to just for his daughter. If Bianca has her father’s managerial mind, she could climb the Raiders’ organization ladder from cheerleader to head coach and maybe take the team to the Super Bowl one day.
Blue Jays won’t rush prospect Brett Lawrie

Yesterday, we learned that the Blue Jays placed Aaron Hill on the 15-day Disabled List. Manager John Farrell said Edwin Encarnacion is expected to be available on Monday.
Both injuries have forced the team to juggle John McDonald and Chris Woodward throughout the lineup, but according Bill Lankhof of the Toronto Sun prospect Brett Lawrie is not likely to be called up before August.
“We’re extremely excited about the day Brett Lawrie arrives,” said Farrell. “But we have to let him to take his developmental path, not sacrifice that. We have to do what’s right for Lawrie first.”
Lawrie was moved to third base during Spring Training. “Defence has been solid. There’s been a couple of errors where he’s thrown on the run and not set his feet,” added Farrell. “He has arm strength, good range all the adjectives. But the fact is he’s had seven weeks playing a new position. He can play it but we want to be sure we give him enough game awareness that when he comes up here it’s not just survival but that he has the background to make the proper decisions.”
The third baseman is hitting .425/.468/.712 with 4 HR’s and 12 RBI’s in 73 AB’s with the Blue Jays’ Triple-A team.
