The San Francisco Giants have released right-handed pitcher Marc Kroon, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Kroon, a closer in Japan, signed a Minor League deal with the Giants in late January. The righty currently holds the record for the fastest pitch ever in Japanese baseball history at 101 MPH.

The 37-year-old Kroon placed played in the Majors with the Rockies in 2004 when he appeared in six games in relief.  He spent time with the Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres in the late 90’s.  He has a career record of 0-2 with a 7.76 ERA in 26 relief appearances.
