The Philadelphia Phillies have signed free agent infielder Ronnie Balliard to a Minor League deal, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Belliard with report to the club’s Triple-A team in Lehigh Valley.

Belliard had been with the New York Yankees organization fighting for a bench spot, but he was released on March 28.  Instead of going with Belliard, the Yankees went with Eric Chavez and Eduardo Nunez as the team’s backup infielders.

The 13-year veteran spent the 2010 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers where he hit .216/.295/.327 in 82 games.
