Ozzie Canseco tries to fill in for brother Jose

By Allan

The charter member of the 40/40 club, Jose Canseco, decided to not show up for this Celebrity Boxing match in Hollywood, Florida, so instead twin brother Ozzie Canseco tried to jump in the ring and collect the $5,000 appearance fee.

In the past, this hasn’t been a problem. Ozzie has filled in for Jose at autograph shows without a hitch. The brothers’ switch-a-roo didn’t work this time when the firm noticed that Ozzie didn’t have Jose’s bicep tattoo when he took his shirt off.

“[Ozzie] didn’t have Jose’s tattoos on the biceps that appear in our advertising,” the representative said (via NewsCore).

Jose had already been paid $5,000 and the other $5,000 was due in cash upon arrival.

“Hours before the fight Saturday, we issued a check for the remaining $5,000 in the name of Jose Canseco, and we delivered it to whom we thought was Jose Canseco,” the man explained.

“When we discovered that the person to whom we had given the rest of the money was not Jose but Ozzie, we asked him to return the check, but he refused to do it.”

“We will go to the bank on Monday and put a stop-payment on it.”

Ozzie played in 24 Major League games and was a one-time teammate with his brother in Oakland. The now 46-year-old former outfielder had a lifetime .200/.297/.292.
