Indians OF Austin Kearns arrested for DUI in February

By Allan

Maybe some people just don’t care about the Cleveland Indians or maybe they have pretty good media protection, but according to Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer, outfielder Austin Kearns was arrested for driving under the influence on February 12.  Word leaked out about the incident on Monday via The Jessamine County Journal.  The team was not aware of the arrest until it became public.

Kearns has a court date in Jessamine County, Kentucky on March 10.  Jessamine County is outside of Kearn’s hometown of Lexington.

“I really can’t say anything,” said Kearns. “There’s a legal process going on.”

Kearns will not leave camp to take care of the matters.

“My attorney will go for me,” said Kearns.

The team released this statement, “We are aware of Austin Kearns’ arrest on Feb. 12 and are in the process of gathering facts and discussing the matter with him. The Indians organization takes these issues very seriously and is disappointed by the circumstances. We will handle the matter internally and will not have any further comment until we have complete information about the incident and the legal process has run its course.”

Kearns told the sheriff’s deputy that he had “a couple bourbon and cokes” at Harry’s Bary in Lexington.  The outfielder refused a field sobriety test and was “very unsteady on his feet.”  Kearns “advised that he played professional baseball and asked if I could cut him a break.”
