Coco Crisp arrested for driving under the influence

By Allan

According to a press release issued by the Oakland Athletics, outfielder Coco Crisp was arrested early on Tuesday morning on the suspicion of driving under the influence.  Here’s what the press release said:

“Coco Crisp was arrested and detained early this morning under the suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was released from the City of Scottsdale Jail this morning and arrived at Phoenix Municipal Stadium on time for team pre-game drills. The A’s are aware of the situation and take such matters seriously. The team and Coco will have no further comment until further details are available.”

Late on Wednesday, Crisp sent out this Tweet:
“Sorry to everyone! my family, friends, MLB and my fans. I know I let a lot of ppl down and again I am sorry. I’ll talk more 2morrow, Gnite.”

TMZ reported earlier on Wednesday that Crisp was pulled over by Scottsdale Police while he was driving his 2009 Rolls Royce Phantom.  He was stopped when one of the officers noticed him “failing to stay in one lane of traffic.” Crisp was out of jail that morning and participated in pregame drills.

Crisp under contract with the A’s for the 2011 on a $5.75 million contract.

Crisp is unfortunately note the first player in the last month to be arrested for charges similar to DUI.  Austin Kearns was arrested February 12th and Miguel Cabrera was arrested on February 17th.

Both Kearns and Cabrera dropped their profession and who they were as they tried to get out of being arrested.  It is not known if Crisp tried to get out of being arrested but the fact that he was driving his 2009 Rolls Royce Phantom obviously means he was somebody with money.
