Choo has not heard from Indians regarding long-term deal

By Allan

Cleveland Indians outfielder, Shin-Soo Choo is open to a long-term deal, but he has not heard from GM Chris Antonetti about a possibility of it happening, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

“He hasn’t said anything about my contract. Nothing,” Choo said. “I don’t know if my agent and the Indians talk about it. I don’t know. My agent never told me. He said the contract is over for this year. So I said, ‘OK.’ My focus is on this year.”

The agent Choo is referring to is the infamous Scott Boras, and if history dictates itself, fans of Choo should not expect the outfielder to give up arbitration or free agent years for the security of a long-term deal.

Choo will be a free agent in 2013 and if he continues his success, he’ll command big bucks once he is free to sign anywhere.  He avoided arbitration with the Indians this season by signing a one-year, $3.975 deal.

Choo and Cleveland have been discussing a contract extension for some time, but there have been no indication as to which way the talks have been leaning towards.  The outfielder is not open to discussions once the season starts.
