Home of Longoria, Price and Brignac robbed
Posted by: | Comments
The shared house of Evan Longoria, David Price and Reid Brignac in Port Charlotte, Fla was robbed over the weekend, Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times reports. Among the items that were taken include a 60-inch flat screen TV, three iPads, two Xbox game systems, headphones, Price’s laptop and several of Price’s high-priced watches.
“Thank God nobody was there,” Brignac said Sunday. “If we were there, it would have been a different story.”
“That was one of the biggest things,” Longoria said, “that everybody was okay and safe, and nobody had to fight their way out of a home invasion robbery. … A multitude of different things could have happened, and there could have been people injured.”
The robbery took place while the three were at a game on Saturday afternoon.
“They took pretty much everything that was ours inside the house,” Longoria said.
This is the second time that Longoria was a victim to theft. His 1967 Camaro was stolen in early March from the lot of an Arizona shop where it was being refurbished.

Ozzie Canseco tries to fill in for brother Jose

The charter member of the 40/40 club, Jose Canseco, decided to not show up for this Celebrity Boxing match in Hollywood, Florida, so instead twin brother Ozzie Canseco tried to jump in the ring and collect the $5,000 appearance fee.
In the past, this hasn’t been a problem. Ozzie has filled in for Jose at autograph shows without a hitch. The brothers’ switch-a-roo didn’t work this time when the firm noticed that Ozzie didn’t have Jose’s bicep tattoo when he took his shirt off.
“[Ozzie] didn’t have Jose’s tattoos on the biceps that appear in our advertising,” the representative said (via NewsCore).
Jose had already been paid $5,000 and the other $5,000 was due in cash upon arrival.
“Hours before the fight Saturday, we issued a check for the remaining $5,000 in the name of Jose Canseco, and we delivered it to whom we thought was Jose Canseco,” the man explained.
“When we discovered that the person to whom we had given the rest of the money was not Jose but Ozzie, we asked him to return the check, but he refused to do it.”
“We will go to the bank on Monday and put a stop-payment on it.”
Ozzie played in 24 Major League games and was a one-time teammate with his brother in Oakland. The now 46-year-old former outfielder had a lifetime .200/.297/.292.

Yankees, Cardinals not interested in Carlos Silva
Posted by: | Comments
Right handed pitcher Carlos Silva is not drawing too much interest after being released earlier today by the Cubs.
Jack Curry of YES Network says that the Yankees have no plans of pursuing Silva. The right hander worked with Larry Rothschild last season with the Cubs, but the team isn’t interested. The St. Louis Cardinals also said they have little to no interest in Silva according to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Yesterday, the Cubs named Andrew Cashner as the last member of the team’s rotation and Marcos Mateo as the last member of the bullpen. That left Silva without a spot on the team.
The team told Silva they would try and trade him but had asked him to go down to the minors to work on his game. But Silva the team player he is said no. He didn’t leave it at just “no”, he took a parting shot at Cubs pitching coach Mark Riggins as he left the building for the last time.
The Venezuela native began the 2010 season going 8-0 in his first 11 starts, but after the All-Star break he was 1-3 with a 11.12 ERA. He finished the 2010 season with a 11-6 record and a 4.22 ERA in 113 innings throughout 21 starts.
Though he allowed 21 runs in 17.1 innings this Spring, a team in need of pitching may take a fly on Silva as he can be had for the league minimum with the Cubs and Mariners on the hook for the rest of his salary.
