The St. Louis Cardinals announced that pitcher Adam Wainwright underwent Tommy John surgery this morning by Dr. Paletta.  GM John Mozeliak confirmed that the procedure went very well. The right-hander is expected to miss the entire 2011 season due to the surgery.

The Cardinals are expected to fill the rotation void by promoting from within. Kyle McClellan and Miguel Batista are among those internal candidates.

However, if the internal candidates do not pan out during the Spring, it would be likely that the team goes after an available free agent such as Kevin Millwood.
