Apparently, the San Diego Padres are in on Jorge Cantu according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. The Padres would prefer to keep it to a Minor League deal says Heyman.

Yesterday, we learned that the Astros ceased conversations with Cantu and that the Braves and Padres became the front runner for his services with the Cleveland Indians as an outside possibility for the infielder.

Cantu hit .256 with 11 HR’s and 56 RBI’s in 2010 with the Marlins and then with the American League Champions the Texas Rangers.
