Mark Hendrickson to sign Minor League deal with Orioles

According to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun, left-handed pitcher Mark Hendrickson will sign a Minor League deal with the Baltimore Orioles. The deal includes an invitation to the team’s big league Spring Training. He will compete for a situational left-handed role in the bullpen as well as long relief. Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun adds that Hendrickson will make around $900,000 if he makes the team.
The 36-year-old has been with the Orioles since the 2009 season. Last year, he was 1-6 with a 5.26 ERA in 52 appearances.
The left-hander also was weighing an offer from the Colorado Rockies.
Jeff Fiorentino agrees to Minor League deal with Orioles

In an article by Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun, his source says that former Baltimore Orioles outfielder Jeff Fiorentino has agreed to a Minor League deal with his old team. The 27-year-old was not given an invitation to the team’s Big League Spring Training.
The outfielder spent the 2010 season with the Hiroshima Carp of the Japanese Central League where he hit .246 with 2 home runs and 15 RBIs in 44 games.
In 58 Major League games, the left-handed hitter has hit .270/.341/.324.
Marlins agree to terms with Greg Dobbs and Shawn Hill

According to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, the Florida Marlins have signed Greg Dobbs and Shawn Hill to Minor League deals with invitation to the Major League Spring Training.
Dobs played with the Phillies in 2010. He hit .196 with 5 HR’s and 15 RBI’s in 163 AB’s.
Hill was 1-2 with a 2.61 ERA in 20.2 innings with the Blue Jays in 2010.
Phillies agree to a Minor League deal with Jason Grilli

The Philadelphia Phillies and veteran reliever Jason Grilli have agreed to a Minor League deal according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Grilli won’t receive an invitation to the Major League Spring Training camp.
Grilli said yesterday through his Twitter account that he’s “FIRED UP about the City of Brotherly Love!”.
The 34-year old Grilli, hasn’t played in the Majors since 2009. He went 2-3 with a 5.32 ERA in 45.2 innings throughout 52 games with the Rangers and Rockies combined.
Elmer Dessens wants to pitch in 2011

Veteran reliever Elmer Dessens says that he wants to pitch in 2011 according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. “I’m training right now and throwing and want to play another year,” he said.
The 40-year old was willing to re-sign with the Mets on a Minor League deal with an invitation to Spring Training, but the Mets told him they were not interested. “They said, ‘We’re going in another direction,’” said the veteran reliever.
Dessens was 4-2 with a 2.30 ERA in 53 games last season with the Mets.
Chicago Cubs invite Braden Looper to Spring Training

According to MLB.com’s Carrie Muskat, the Chicago Cubs have signed right-handed pitcher Branden Looper to a Minor League contract and invited him to Spring Training. Looper is among the 21 non-roster invitees that have been invited to the team’s Spring Training camp.
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN adds that Looper will earn about $1 million if he makes the club. If he becomes a fulltime starter, he could earn around $3 million with incentives.
Looper played for the last time in 2009 with the Brewers. He was 14-7 with a 5.22 ERA in 196.2 innings throughout 34 starts.
The team also announced they have agreed to a Minor League with Augie Ojeda. He will also receive invitation to the Major League Spring Training.
Jason Grilli interested in going to Philadelphia

Jesus Feliciano weighing Minor League offers

Outfielder Jesus Feliciano is weighing a couple of Minor League offers according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com.
Feliciano was dropped off the Mets 40-man roster back in November. He played 54 games in 2010 with the Mets. The 31-year old hit .231 with 3 RBI’s in 108 AB’s last season.
Orioles and Nationals are finalists for Justin Duchscherer

According to a source close to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports the Baltimore Orioles are the favorites to land right handed pitcher Justin Duchscherer. The free agent hurler has at least one Major League offer in the table says the source.
Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun later adds that the Orioles and Nationals are the finalists for Duchscherer with the Orioles making the right-hander a Major League offer. Connolly is not sure if the Nationals’ offer is a big league contract.
Duchscherer tossed a bullpen session for the Orioles on Friday, and he said on Tuesday that he is almost at 100% (health wise). “I find it funny that people say I can’t pitch in that environment, but I’ve pitched in New York before,” he said. “As far as my mind, I have no problem being anywhere. Physically, it’s a matter of [finding] the best situation for me.” The former A’s ace has been drawing interest from teams like the Yankees and Red Sox as well.
The 33-year old missed 2009 after under going elbow surgery in spring training and suffered from clinical depression later in the year. In 2010 after he made only five starts he underwent season-ending hip surgery.
Duchscherer has a career record of 33-15 and an ERA of 3.13 in 224 appearances.
