Cleveland Indians Rumors: Indians scouting Bartolo Colon, signed Toru Murata

By juan

The Cleveland Indians are scouting former Cy Young award winner Bartolo Colon, according to Paul Hoynes of the Plain Dealer.

Colon has not pitched in the big leagues since 2009. He’s currently 3-1 with a 1.54 ERA for the Aguilas Cibaenas in the Dominican Republic where Indians manager Manny Acta recently watched him.

Acta said vi e-mail about Colon: “He is throwing the ball well down there, we are looking for an experienced starter…so we feel that it is worth checking him out.”

In early December there were rumors that the Indians were interested in Colon, but those rumors were quickly dismissed by Hoynes himself.

Colon, 37, is 3-0 with a 0.91 ERA in 5 starts in the Dominican League. In 2009, Colon was 3-6 with a 4.19 ERA over 12 starts with the Chicago White Sox.

Also the Indians have signed Japanese right handed pitcher Toru Murata to a minor league deal. The deal doesn’t include an invitation to the Major League Spring Training.
