The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded left handed pitcher Zach Duke to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a player to be named later, according to MLB.com’s Jennifer Langosch.
Duke was designated for assignment by the Pirates on November 19 along with Andy LaRoche and Delwyn Young . The Pirates needed room to include Michael Crotta, Jeff Locke, Kyle McPherson, Daniel Moskos and Tony Watson on the team’s 40-man roster.
Duke, 27, debuted on the Majors in 2005 with the Pirates. He has a career record of 45-70 with a 4.54 ERA in 160 appearances, 159 of them as a starter. An executive close to FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal said that Duke could do well at the bottom of a rotation.
