The new Blue Jays manager, John Farrell, is a big fan of Jason Varitek and according to Chicago Tribune’s Phil Rogers it’s possible that Farrell could push the Jays to bring the catcher to Toronto.

Varitek’s future with the Red Sox is in serious doubt. The Red Sox recently signed Jarrod Saltalamacchia and they will likely bid big to bring Victor Martinez back.

For the 2011 season the Jays could have an opening at catcher with John Buck declaring free agency. The team will likely have J.P Arencibia as their everyday catcher and Jose Molina as their backup catcher. Varitek could serve the Jays organization as a third catcher, a DH or a first baseman.
