Reds may not exercise option on Orlando Cabrera

The 2010 Cincinnati Reds may be on the verge of change just days after being swept away by the Phillies. According to Brad Johansen of WKRC the first player on his way out may be Orlando Cabrera. Cabrera who signed a 1-yr $2.2mm contract with a mutual option for 2011 at $4mm. If Cincinnati declines the option, the buyout will be for $1MM and if Cabrera declines, it will be for $500K.
Cabrera may not have earned his keep with the bat this year, but he made up for it with his leadership in the clubhouse and also with his bat boy skills. Reds GM Walt Jocketty had this to say about the situation, “It’s probably more than we want to exercise, we’ll try to find a happy medium..if not Janish would be our SS”. There is a possibility that Cabrera will realize that he had a down year and may look to work out a deal for less money to stay with the Reds.
