Nick Cafardo on the Yankees, Barry Bonds, Theo Epstein and Curt Young

By Allan

Here’s your Happy Halloween edition from The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo:

– It appears that Triple-A pitching coach Scott Aldred is the front-runner to take over the New York Yankees vacant pitching coach position. The team fired pitching coach Dave Eiland on October 25.

– The Yankees will likely look into adding a bullpen piece or two. On Friday, it was believed that GM Brian Cashman had prioritized a left-handed reliever on his winter to-do list.

– Dave Roberts endorsed Barry Bonds as a future hitting coach. Earlier this week, we heard that Bonds wants to share his gift of hitting with others as a hitting coach, and he hopes to do it with the San Francisco Giants organization.

– Tony Peña is drawing interest from the Florida Marlins as a candidate to be their next manager. Last week, it was said the Marlins were leaning towards keeping interim manager Edwin Rodriguez for one more year.

– ESPN analyst J.P. Ricciardi is talking with the New York Mets and newly named GM Sandy Alderson. When Ricciardi was asked if he was joining the Mets, he said, “Not sure yet.” As for Alderson, he’s expected to be in New York at least until Boston Red Sox’s GM Theo Epstein’s deal expires after the 2012 season.

– The Arizona Diamondbacks are very interested in former pitching coach for the Oakland A’s, Curt Young.
