Lyle Overbay ready to test free agency

By Allan

First baseman Lyle Overbay is ready to test the free agent waters, but he isn’t sure what the outcome will be. Overbay thinks it could be anything from a multi-year deal to a Minor League contract, according to MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian.

“It’s something I’ve never gone through. Hopefully, it’ll be fun,” Overbay said. “At the same time, you don’t know. I’m not going to be disappointed if I don’t get what I want. I don’t expect a whole lot, but you never know.”

It’s not known if the Toronto Blue Jays will want to sign their first baseman since 2006. There was speculation toward the end of August that Overbay could be traded. The Tampa Bay Rays were a good fit at the time, and now with Carlos Peña likely leaving via free agency, Overbay could take over. If the Blue Jays pass on Overbay, it’s likely that GM Alex Anthopoulos will hit the trade market or free agency.
