The Miami Herald’s Clark Spencer reports that the Florida Marlins have re-signed infielder Donnie Murphy to a split contract with an invitation to Spring Training.
Murphy received a lot more playing time with the Fish after Jorge Cantu was traded from the Marlins to the Rangers in July. However he was placed on the 60-day disabled list with a dislocated right wrist at the beginning of September that required season-ending surgery.
Murphy hit .318/.348/.705 in 29 games for with the Marlins in 2010. He gives Florida depth at third base, second base and shortstop. The 27-year-old originally signed with the team in December 2009.
