Mets manager Jerry Manuel’s days are numbered? Bobby Valentine not a candidate?

By Allan

With his team 13 games behind the Atlanta Braves and 10 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the Wild Card, New York Mets’ manager, Jerry Manuel, may have his days as the team’s skipper numbered. Mike Puma of the New York Post says Manuel would “love to know” about his future with the team, but he isn’t about to approach management about it.

“I don’t want to be a distraction for what they need to do,” Manuel said.
Puma adds that barring a miraculous finish, Manuel is expected to be replaced by a poll that includes Wally Backman, Bob Melvin and Terry Collins. Despite previous rumors, Puma says former Mets manager Bobby Valentine isn’t expected to be a candidate.
Backman, who is currently managing at Single-A Brooklyn, says he could “probably” do things differently than the current manager.
“When you are in this position that I’m in and you want to be a major league manager and you dream of being in this position, you always think of things you would do different than what I do here,” Manuel said.
