Joe Cowley on Chicago White Sox 2011 Rotation

Although 2010 is not over for the Chicago White Sox, it’s hard to not look forward at the team’s starting rotation for 2011. Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times said there may be question marks regarding Jake Peavy and Freddy Garcia.
Peavy is recovering from surgery performed to repair the detached lat in his right shoulder, and he’ll have the next five months to recover in time for Spring Training.
“I don’t really know and I don’t think the doctors really know,” Peavy said of his return to the mound. “They expect me to make a full recovery but said a lot of this is uncharted territory. They think it will be the case, and we hope that will be the case, but at the end of the day nobody can say, ‘At this point and time, you’re going to feel this way.’ ”
Peavy hopes to start his throwing program at the beginning of the year.
Another question mark is Freddy Garcia. GM Ken Williams said the team hopes to re-sign Freddy Garcia. Garcia will be a free-agent after this season. Garcia, 35, is 11-5 with a 4.82 ERA this season for the Sox. He’s making $1 million this season on a team option that was exercised last October. He’ll certainly get a nice bump salary-wise.
Should Peavy and Garcia be on the Sox roster for next year, the team potentially could have up to seven starters: Edwin Jackson, Mark Buehrle, Gavin Floyd, John Danks and Chris Sale (he’ll likely start the year in the Minors and transition to a starter).
